For a piece that is supposed to invoke emotion, it does the job. The model you worked with has a very strong presence. Her face says it all and you did a great job capturing it, however, there are some things that can be improved on.
The lighting in this piece leaves a bit to be desired. The flash/ directed lighting makes her look flat and washed out, it takes a lot of the emotion out of a piece that is supposed to be overflowing with emotion. Try using a diffuser over your flash, or, the cheap method is a piece of tissue (or several) with some string or rubber band to soften the light. Or, perhaps, you want harsh lighting and thats fine. If thats the case, consider playing with black and white.
I'm not a big fan of the backdrop. Its a unique perspective and, like I said, great work capturing it, but perhaps try something that fades out, like a sliding glass door or window, or just a wall. Use a low depth of field, or something. Either way, the colors of the backdrop just don't work for me in this photo, neither does the backdrop itself. It doesn't add to the impact that the photo is supposed to produce, it subtracts a bit in my opinion. The colors of the makeup is very interesting! Work with it, expand, you did a great job!
Great, great composition. You have a really wonderful eye and I hope you keep developing it. Like the crop, like the angle/perspective. Great work.
This is a good photo, but it has the potential to be great. I think there are several major areas that can be improved and lighting is on the top. Playing with depth of field (aperture/fstop) wouldn't be a bad idea. The model you worked with was great and the concept was great.
Thnk you so much for the critique.
Means a lot to me, so thank you.
I understand what you're saying, and thanks for the advice
You have some great photos in your gallery and a really great eye. Just keep working on it. I used to play around with studio lighting before I interned under a maternity photographer that turned me off studio lighting and onto natural lighting. I'm not a fantastic photographer myself but I hope the little I was able to contribute helped you out
